Planning a trip for yourself or your family? Get three great tips from our friends at Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PenFed) to protect your financial accounts while you're traveling.
1. Tell Us About Your Travel Plans!
At PenFed we like to know when our members are traveling so that we can do our part to keep your accounts safe. Notifying your financial institution of travel plans prevents the placement of embarrassing holds on your account due to unusual spending patterns or locations. So before you head out, take a moment to log into your PenFed account online. Click on Account Actions and select the option to View/Set Travel Notification. Here you can enter you travel dates and destinations so that we know that you are shopping in Paris or scuba diving in Thailand. If you prefer to speak with someone directly, representatives from our call center are available to assist you 7 days a week at 800-616-6600. Make sure you have your PenFed pin number when you dial in!
2. Keep Your Eyes on Your Credit Card
Skimming scams where thieves duplicate your credit/debit card information to fraudulently use your account are very common. Vigilantly monitor your credit/debit card, keeping it in sight during your travel. Be leery of shop attendants requiring that you swipe your credit card through more than one machine. If you think that you may have been a victim of skimming, contact your financial institution immediately.
3. Monitor Your Account
Mobile and online banking provides you the convenience of 24/7 access to your account activity. Take advantage of this unlimited account access to monitor your accounts during your travel to ensure that there have been no unauthorized charges.
PenFed encourages you to travel safe to, from, and during your stay at your summer travel destination!
